Click the Record button on the toolbar <span class=\"guiicon\"><span class=\"inlinemediaobject\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/icons\/recordIcon.png\" width=\"16\"><\/span><\/span>, or press <span class=\"keycap\"><strong>Ctrl<\/strong><\/span>+<span class=\"keycap\"><strong>Space<\/strong><\/span> or <span class=\"keycap\"><strong>R<\/strong><\/span> to start recording. <\/p>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"mic-access\"><\/a>2.3.1.\u00a0Grant microphone access<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>If you are running <span class=\"application\">VoceVista Video Pro<\/span> on macOS for the first time, there may be a security<br \/>\n        prompt asking whether the program is allowed to access the microphone. Click on<br \/>\n          <span class=\"guibutton\">Allow<\/span>to grant microphone access:<\/p>\n<div class=\"figure\">\n<a name=\"id-1.5.7.3.3.1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"figure-contents\">\n<div class=\"mediaobject\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/en\/quickstart\/macOS_mic_access.png\" width=\"372\" alt=\"Allow microphone access on macOS\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"title\"><b>Figure\u00a02.7.\u00a0Allow microphone access on macOS<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br class=\"figure-break\"><\/p>\n<p>If microphone access hasn&#8217;t been granted, recording will not work. If that is the case,<br \/>\n        you can open the macOS System Settings to grant access later under &#8220;Privacy &amp; Security&#8221;.<br \/>\n        On Windows, there is a similar setting under &#8220;PC Settings \/ Privacy&#8221;. Recording sounds screetchy and distorted during playback and is<br \/>\n                unusable. Move the input volume slider to the left, or increase your<br \/>\n                distance to the microphone. <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n                <span class=\"inlinemediaobject\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/en\/quickstart\/levelMedium.png\" width=\"150\"><\/span>\n              <\/td>\n<td>\n                <span class=\"inlinemediaobject\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/en\/quickstart\/waveformVolumeMedium.png\" width=\"238\"><\/span>\n              <\/td>\n<td>\n<span class=\"bold\"><strong>Recording Volume optimal:<\/strong><\/span>Signal<br \/>\n                uses most of the available dynamic range without clipping. Analyzer will show best<br \/>\n                amount of detail. Sounds good during playback.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>Make some sounds into your microphone and adjust the recording level until it is getting<br \/>\n        a strong signal without clipping. This means that the background of the input level meter<br \/>\n        should never reach the red zone, and the content in the Timeline and\/or Waveform should<br \/>\n        never touch the upper and lower edges of the view.<\/p>\n<p>If you are recording singing, be aware that the dynamic range of a trained singer can be<br \/>\n        extreme. This means that singing can get very loud, and the input volume might need to be<br \/>\n        lower than you think to prevent clipping and distortion of the recording when the singer is<br \/>\n        singing high notes at high volume. In those cases, besides lowering the input volume, it<br \/>\n        might help to increase the distance to the mic a bit, or to use a better microphone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-1.5.7.5\"><\/a>2.3.3.\u00a0Sing a tone<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s try some singing. For example, click on a key of the piano keyboard, listen to<br \/>\n        it, and then try to sing the same pitch. Fill up half a screen and then press <span class=\"keycap\"><strong><br \/>\n          Space<\/strong><\/span> or click the stop button on the toolbar to stop recording. The horizontal blue line in the middle is the pitch of your voice. The vertical<br \/>\n        green line is the Time Cursor. The Piano highlights the key that best matches the pitch of<br \/>\n        the recording at the time where the Time Cursor is, and the Staff View shows the same key as<br \/>\n        a musical note.<\/p>\n<div class=\"itemizedlist\">\n<ul class=\"itemizedlist\" style=\"list-style-type: disc; \">\n<li class=\"listitem\">\n<p>Now try to play some other notes on the piano keyboard, and record your voice to see<br \/>\n            if you can sing the matching pitch.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"listitem\">\n<p>Then try to sing or whistle some melodies, and observe how the blue pitch line and<br \/>\n            the notes on the piano and staff view respond to your sound.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"prevNextLinks bottom\"><span class=\"prevLink\"><a href=\"\/en\/documentation\/quickstart\/configuration\/\">\u2190 2.2.
