You can also adjust the format of the recorded data, and you can select which stereo channel is displayed from the active recording.\n  <\/p>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-64-RecordingSource\"><\/a>Input Device<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This is the input line from which to record audio data when you press the<br \/>\n      record button. If you have more than one sound card installed, for<br \/>\n      example because you are using an external USB microphone, make sure that<br \/>\n      the correct one is selected here.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-64-RecordingVolume\"><\/a>Recording Volume<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This determines the sensitivity of your microphone or input line. It is very important to set this so that the<br \/>\n      full dynamic range is used without clipping to get a good recording. The format of existing<br \/>\n        recordings cannot be changed. If you want to change these settings and<br \/>\n        they are disabled, click on<br \/>\n        <span class=\"guimenu\">File<\/span> \u2192 <span class=\"guimenuitem\">New<\/span><\/p>\n<p>        first.\n      <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h4 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-65-SamplingRate\"><\/a>Sampling Rate<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n        The Sampling Rate determines the number of measurements (samples) per second recorded from the input source. For most purposes, a sampling rate of 44100 Hz is appropriate. When using the EGG, a sampling rate of 48000 Hz might give the best results.\n      <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h4 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-65-ChannelFormat\"><\/a>Channels<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>       The channel format allows you to select between stereo and mono recordings. On the left side, under <span class=\"emphasis\"><em>default settings for new recordings<\/em><\/span>, the channel format is set for new recordings. Changing this setting will not affect any files that are already open.<\/p>\n<p>On the right side, under <span class=\"emphasis\"><em>settings currently in use<\/em><\/span>, you can change how the currently active file is displayed. This can also be changed on the toolbar.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the various channel display options:<\/p>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h5 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-1.6.4.4.6.4.5\"><\/a>default settings for new recordings<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"variablelist\">\n<dl class=\"variablelist\">\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Record mono <\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Record a mono file with a single audio track.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Record stereo<\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Record a stereo file with two audio channels, a left and a right channel.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Record left\/right stereo channel <\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>This is useful when a single mono microphone is connected to the left or right channel of an audio interface. In that case, when recording &#8220;mono&#8221;, the audio interface would mix the channel of the microphone with the empty channel that has nothing connected. By recording only the left or only the right channel, this mixing is avoided.<\/p>\n<p>The recording will be saved as a mono file with a single channel.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Record Audio left; EGG right \/ EGG left; Audio right<\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Record a stereo file with two channels, where one channel is interpreted and displayed as the audio channel recorded from the microphone, and the other channel is interpreted and displayed as the Electroglottograph (EGG).<\/p>\n<p>This option is only available in VoceVista Video Pro.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h5 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-1.6.4.4.6.4.6\"><\/a>settings currently in use<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"variablelist\">\n<dl class=\"variablelist\">\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Display mono<\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>When a mono recording is active, the only available option is to display its single channel.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Display mixed stereo<\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>When a stereo recording is active, this setting will display both channels mixed together. So the spectrogram will show audio content from both channels.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Display left \/ right stereo channel<\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>With these settings, only the left or the right channel of a stereo recording will be displayed.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><span class=\"term\">Display Audio left, EGG right \/ EGG left, Audio right<\/span><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Interpret one channel as audio data, and one channel as EGG.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h4 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-65-SampleSize\"><\/a>Sample Size<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n        The sample size influences the quality but also the storage requirements<br \/>\n        of the recorded sound. The default setting of 16 bit per sample<br \/>\n        corresponds to the quality of standard audio CDs and should be sufficient<br \/>\n        for most purposes. A higher bit depth of 24 or 32 bit can be useful when<br \/>\n        the dynamic range of the recorded signal is very high, and when it<br \/>\n        contains very quiet passages that should later be amplified.\n      <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-65-TempFolder\"><\/a>Temp Folder<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n        This is the folder where <span class=\"application\">VoceVista Video Pro<\/span> will store data as you are<br \/>\n        recording it. Make sure that you have enough hard drive space left. A<br \/>\n        mono recording with 44100 samples per second and a sample size of 16 bit<br \/>\n        requires about 350 MB (half a CD) per hour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"prevNextLinks bottom\"><span class=\"prevLink\"><a href=\"\/en\/documentation\/program-reference\/options\/\">\u2190 3.2.
