Timeline and Waveform \u2192<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"dbimpcontent\">\n<h2 class=\"title\">Selection<\/h2>\n<p>In <span class=\"application\">VoceVista Video Pro<\/span>, the concept of a selection extends to a time range of the recording, and to elements that can be selected individually, such as piano keys and note sliders:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"figure\">\n<a name=\"fig_ui_selection\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"figure-contents\">\n<div class=\"mediaobject\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/en\/selection\/selection-en-oa5.png\" alt=\"Selecting time range and notes\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"title\"><b>Figure\u00a03.3.\u00a0Selecting time range and notes<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br class=\"figure-break\">\n  <\/p>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-1.6.3.4.4\"><\/a>Using keyboard modifiers (Control \/ Command)<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n      To change the selection with the mouse, you need to hold the <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Control<\/span><br \/>\n      key (on Windows), or the <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Command<\/span><br \/>\n      key (on Mac).\n    <\/p>\n<p>On the <a class=\"link\" href=\"\/en\/documentation\/program-reference\/options\/selection-and-pointer-settings\/\" title=\"3.2.10.\u00a0Selection and Pointer Settings\">Selection Settings<\/a> page, you can set the mouse click action to change the selection with the simple click instead of requiring the Ctrl\/Cmd key. This is the behavior used by Overtone Analyzer 4.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-185-Selectingtimerangeofarecording\"><\/a>Selecting time range of a recording<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Parts of the recording can be selected on the Timeline, the Waveform View, and on the<br \/>\nSpectrogram. Simply click anywhere on these views, hold the left mouse<br \/>\n      button, and move the mouse to the end of the area that you want to<br \/>\n      select. The selected area will be marked with a different background color. You can click and drag the borders of an existing selection to make it<br \/>\nlonger or shorter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h4 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-185-Workingwithaselection\"><\/a>Working with a time selection<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Once you have selected a time range, you can press the <span class=\"guibutton\">Play<\/span> button to play it repeatedly. You can choose if playback should be repeated automatically by clicking on <span class=\"guimenu\">Tools<\/span> \u2192 <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Loop playback<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also<br \/>\nclick on <span class=\"guimenu\">View<\/span> \u2192 <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Zoom to fit selection<\/span> to set the visible time range to match the current selection.\n<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, you can click on  <span class=\"guimenu\">Edit<\/span> \u2192 <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Select visible range<\/span> to select the time range that is currently visible.<\/p>\n<p>Use the command   <span class=\"guimenu\">Edit<\/span> \u2192 <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Set selection<\/span> to enter precise numbers for the time range to be selected.<\/p>\n<p>Further, you can apply <a class=\"link\" href=\"\/en\/documentation\/program-reference\/editing-audio-files\/\" title=\"3.4.\u00a0Editing Audio Files\">edit commands<\/a> such as Cut, Copy,<br \/>\nPaste, etc. to the current selection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h4 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-185-Lockingaselection\"><\/a>Locking a selection<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>If you click anywhere on the Timeline or the Spectrogram, the<br \/>\n      playback cursor will jump to the position of the click, and the current<br \/>\n      selection will be reset.<br \/>\n      Sometimes you might want to keep the selection a bit longer, but<br \/>\n      still move the cursor within the selection to hear specific parts. To<br \/>\n      prevent the selection from being lost when you move the cursor, click on  <span class=\"guimenu\">Edit<\/span> \u2192 <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Lock selection<\/span>. Now the selection can still be resized by<br \/>\n      moving its borders, but clicking somewhere on the Timeline or Analyzer View won&#8217;t destroy the existing selection. This is particularly useful when comparing files, and when working with <a class=\"link\" href=\"\/en\/documentation\/program-reference\/ui-contents\/frequency-filters\/\" title=\"3.1.6.\u00a0Frequency Filters\">Frequency Filters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h4 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"id-185-Resettingtheselection\"><\/a>Resetting the selection<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>If the selection is not locked, you can simply click on the Timeline or<br \/>\nAnalyzer View to remove it. This will reposition the playback cursor and reset the<br \/>\n      selection. You can also clear the selection by clicking on   <span class=\"guimenu\">Edit<\/span> \u2192 <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Reset selection<\/span>, or by<br \/>\n      pressing the <span class=\"guimenuitem\">ESC<\/span> key.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"titlepage\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"title\">\n<a name=\"main_ui_SelectingTones\"><\/a>Selecting Tones<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>You can select and deselect tones on the piano keyboard and on the<br \/>\n      Overtone Sliders by clicking on them while holding the <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Control<\/span><br \/>\n      key (on Windows), or the <span class=\"guimenuitem\">Command<\/span><br \/>\n      key (on Mac).
